Potatoes O'Brien

On a  tour of frozen potato aisle , I found  Potatoes O'Brien .

Potato Whirls and Whorls

Potato Whirls and Whorls Crispy, golden fluted edges of piped mashed potatoes Duchess potatoes formed the border of Homard Thermidor on the luxury liner according to ‘Last Dinner on the Titanic Menus and recipes From the Great Liner’. These Whirls and Whorls are a good way of bringing elegance to snacking. Duchess potatoes are made by piping out mashed potatoes, cream, eggs, butter, salt and any seasoning and then heated till golden brown. They taste great by themselves. They can be infused with any flavor. To customize them, Whirls can be cut like a bagel and had with any dip in between as sandwich bites. Whorls piped as nests can then be filled with dips according to the favorite flavors of the family members. Since these cooked potatoes are shaped by piping. They can be piped into any shape. The Boston Cooking – school cookbook offers ideas of baskets, pyramids, crowns, leaves and roses. They can be used for decoration too and as accompaniment to other dishes.

Green Bean Fries

Today I was looking at the freezer section to see what frozen potato snacks are available. I have never seen these green bean fries before.

Pumpkin Pie Cake

Today orders were to buy a pumpkin pie. One slice seemed too little and  a whole pie too big. And that led me to but the 29 oz pumpkin can.  So many things that can be done with  canned pumpkin  other than a pie. Pumpkin pie sheet cake  is a nice way of skipping the crust but it does add a layer of cake. Any complaints? But your pumpkin pie filling remains intact. There was another similar recipe that sounded very nice. It said  sprinkle the dry cake mix . I would have loved to see what happens in the case, but the instructions are not well written. In making the Pumpkin Pie cake, with 29 oz of canned pumpkin, I used only 1 can of evaporated milk, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 eggs and a little more baking time. The filling didnt set too well with my experiment but I liked the trio layers of pie crust, topped with cake, topped with pumpkin pie filling. While looking for pumpkins for a book on when canned pumpkin began, I came upon  Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookies .

Chicken sesame flavoured Soup Bowl

This Chicken sesame flavoured soup Bowl is a  Simply Asia  product. The packaging of the product is extraordinary. When you open the vegetable packet, it is a light cocoony cube. With all small packets of oil and sauce, it seems like you are working modernist pantry wonders.  The packet of noodles itself is what you would find the chef at  Genghis Grill  heating up on the communal stove pan with some water sizzling.  After microwaving, the liquid tasted mild tangy. The noodles are thick and there's not much opportunity for them to take on the sauce. May be cooking on stove op might make a difference.  The experience itself is different than just popping open a noodle bowl. Another ready to eat bowl

Doritos for youth

Doritos website is shown as a great example in 'How to Write Anything' for 'multimodal, multi-layered, persuasive text aimed at young people. Doritos does know its market segment and knows how to stay connected with them with its crowdsourcing ideas of picking up a consumer generated ad to be played at SuperBowl.

Ketchup

Adding Ketchup to a dish adds zing to it.

History of Snacks

Have you seen the ad for Butterfingers where a couple wearing a chocolate and another peanut butter on their shirts are at the psychiatrist's? I love Bugles.  Have you ever stored the messages in Dove chocolates? Did you know what the first Dove chocolates had inside them? Icecream. So if you like snacks and want to learn some of the history, then refer to this Encyclopaedia of Junk Food and Fast Food.

Salmon tikki

I came upon this Salmon tikki by the way of  Salmon cakes .  I have made a  Salmon Patty  before and hoped that this procedure was different. I wanted to see if I could do away with the egg, flour, sesame part of it. And yes you can. 1/2 pound salmon cooked in microwave 2 medium size boiled potatoes 1 bunch of green onions chili powder salt Fry the cutlets on a pan coated with oil until the brown crispy crust occurs. By the time you are done shaping and placing the cutlets in the pan, the first cutlet starts to brown at the bottom. Turn them all to the other side for a similar color and texture.

Wild selections solid Tuna

I have had  Tuna Tarragon at Sweet tomatoes  and  tuna Salad sandwich  at Paradise bakery.  But I dont know if that is canned Tuna or not. Abigail Carroll  in her book Three Squares refers to a Tuna salad accompaniment - Pretzel. Pretzel soup We had the Wild Selections Tuna with Arugula Salad and enjoyed it. In American Tuna,  Andrew F Smith  points that Tuna numbers were not reliable each season and hence the canning.

King Oscar double layer Sardines

I have never had Sardines before.

Mirchi Ka Salan Biryani

Recently, I made  Chole Biryani  but when I shared a picture with my friends, they saw it as Chile Biryani due to auto-spelling correction. Now I wonder why not use  Mirchi ka salan  in between layers of rice and make Mirchi Ka Salan biryani or Mirchi Biryani. Another option is to make Chili Biryani using home made  Chili Seasoning . I made this with Jalapenos. Next time I will deseed atleast some of them. I used some leftover peanut chutney. 2 cups basmatic rice 16 Jalapenos Peanut chutney Tamarind extract 1/2 onion Cumin seeds Ginger Garlic paste Salt And no need of Chilli powder.

I was very taken with making   Fish fillets with stuffing . I didnt use the chicken broth, mushrooms as I didnt have them. I skipped the bread crumbs too to make it low carb. The fish is Tilapia. The stuffing has knocked our socks. The cooked carrots and onions with the fish juices adds flavor to each bite of fish. I dont like raw onions. But these onions are cooked enough in the microwave to not seem raw to taste but still retain the crunch. The onions remind me of sweet, tangy flavour in  Pachi Pulusu  ( Just no
