Dinner the playbook For fried rice, she suggests moving the rice to apan, and then letting the egg cook after which you invite the rice to join.

Lahoris dhaba

Lahoris dhaba We had Samosa, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Paratha roll and Peshawari Namkeen Karahi. Samosa in the picture looked ethereal, but what was on our plate was ok. Chicken Biryani is impressive in taste and quantity. Spicy. Chicken Paratha roll had mint and mirchi chutney, with all its concomitant kick of spice. The owner said that Peshawari Namkeen Karahi is a traditional dish for which people travel from Tucson. He also said that some of his customers think that in the future, he will be exclusively selling that dish. In reference with this dish he referred to  Namak Mandi  or salt market.

Mediterranean mix Vegetable Biryani

I love Mediterranean mix. I make  a quick curry of it, even without adding onions. For the  Vegetable Biryani , I used the mix and Shaan Bombay Biryani Masala. To give body, I added onions too. The biryani turned out good and it had a sweet fragrance to it too. Having had too much chicken in the past couple of days, a veggie Biryani was today's special for an anniversary. I was not a fan of Shaan Masala but friends who are expert cooks swear by it. 12.5.14 I tried it again with Basmati Rice,  While talking about the mediterranean vegetable mix, our friends suggested Asparagus Blend.

Kova Kajjikayalu

A friend shared these  Kova kajjikayalu  as a goodie for expecting moms. I had never seen anything so huge and white like marble. The stuffing is very addictive. I can have half of the thing in one sitting.

Ahmad Tea strawberry & Kiwi

There's nothing strawberry about Ahmad Strawberry & Kiwi Tea. May be some kiwi because of the flower. Still it is a light, soothing green tea. Good companion for sore throat.

Spicy Chicken legs

The first time I made  Spicy chicken legs  for a guest, I learnt very late that he stopped being a non-vegetarian. But me and my roommate enjoyed it. Recently I made it again, ad all the guests liked it. The secret - black pepper and hot and sweet chili sauce. After cooking, when I was eating the leftovers, the curry leaf infused fat reminded me of a fish pickle I had 13 years ago. Since this marinade, worked so well that I dug into the burnt part too, I found what to do with the chicken skin, we were storing. The curry absorbs this marinade very well.

Semolina Sooji Idli

This  Semolina sooji idli  sounded interesting.  After making it, when I shared it with neighbours, they said that they have tried rava idli but never with semiya. I tastes almost like upma - more like the sweet version.

Gongura royyalu curry

Yesterday we had impromptu dinner at neighbours. They made  Gongura royyalu koora , whic I have never had before. The sorrel leaves were form heir gardener, but the host told us before hand that they didnt have the tang. For that and growing wild reason, they are now banned from their garden. They used Costco shrimp with tails cut off. Talking about garden growing wild, a colleague told me about how you have to watch the  bamboo rhizome  or it will go out of control. Here I'm thinking, why dont the indoor bamboo have some of that vigor and stick it out another round.

Safari Samosas

Yesterday we went to the  Chuck Wagon Cook-Off . There we had some  Safari Samosas . The crust is not as crispy as the Punjabi samosa. A wagon ride took us to the  Arizona Railway museum .

Sojja Moram Pulihora

A box is fun to open. A lunch box even more. If it has travelled from another kitchen. Mystery joins fun. This is made from a broken type of rice called Sojja Moram. It looks very much like couscous.

Santa Fe Trail Mix

Yesterday afternoon, a friend gave a sample of  Santa Fe Trail Mix  from Sprouts. It didnt have the pretzels, but it had  Fried Corn . It was spicy like  Cornflakes mixture .  Chilli sauce  is the not so secret ingredient that spices it all up.

Poinsettia salad

I came across Poinsettia salad in Slade's cooking school recipes. This   Poinsettia salad  matche description in the book. There's another kind of preparation.

Samosa

from  lotus Market , good bu too small for a dollar. My sister's verdict.

Beerakaya Chana curry

My neighbor made a care dish of beerakaya with kala chana and aloo in pressure cooker. Lurking behind on the left is avakaya from India. A friend suggested beerakaya with chana and coconut.

Biryani Masala Powder

Sanjay Thumma referred to one of he trends in resaurant - ground spice instead of whole spice - budget reasons . Recently, a friend made vegatble rice and she said she makes her own  biryani masala powder . She had added chilli powder too in that.

Baking Chez Moi

Everyday with twist

I was under the impression that combo veggie - aloo matar, aloo gobi and so on... were a North Indian style of cooking. But in   aloo beerakaya curry , the host says whats new about aloo and beerakaya combination. One combination I heard of from my mom, when she visited her colleague -  aloo and boiled egg curry. Recently I made beerakaya with eggs in it, I let the eggs stay intact for too long. I didnt get to mix it before switching it off. When i opened my lunch box, I ended up with 3 yellows. Sanjay Thumma too has some combinations - beerakaya and scrambled egg, capsicum with lentils.

Because the bananas turned ripe

Olive oil banana bread My friend used atta in the place of 'whole wheat pastry flour' &  honey instead of brown sugar( for no special reason). She sneaked in some butterscotch chips. Verdict - " It smells & tastes gr8."
