Kedem Tea Biscuits

Kedem Tea Biscuits, are very different in their texture. Usually a biscuit yields and snaps to a single bite. With this biscuit, there are layers, so when you bite into it, expect your journey to last a while involving delving into the layers. Unlike a shortbread biscuit cookie which is grainy, this is soft. The sugar free version does not taste weird.

Almond Rave

My husband loves coconut. So no wonder he bought Almond Rave but didnt tell me about it. The macaroons have amaretto flavor. So if you are not a big fan if it, then you might not like the macaroons. But after the amaretto flavor is the crunchy coconut that you can munch on.

Heuvos Rancheros

I ordered this at the hospital during postpartum stay. I liked it the first morning so much that I had the next morning too. Now I am considering going to the hospital cafeteria once in a while for brunch to just enjoy this. I now want to check out all the places serving Huevos Rancheros locally and also make them some time too.

Bhel puri

Quickly I had to make a snack. Bhel puri always comes up but with so many chutneys needed, boiled potatoes, sev and papdi.. it stews in the head for a while and then I give up. But today I'm very frustrated waiting fro contractions, so I guess there's extra energy to make something happen. So I made  Imli chutney and green chutney  with my husband's help. I also added some  raisins  in the imli chutney. I was very happy with it. I boiled some potatoes too, so that the only things missing would be sev and papdi. I added some fried spicy moong for extra zing. It all turned out well.

Stir

sweetamandine Some words take long to make sense. I never understood the Joan Didion's 'The Year of Magical thinking' but when the author Jessica Fechtor uses 'Magical thinking' it made sense. Pizza Schleifer. My daughter too wanted to name her sister - Milk, Chocolate. In 'Stir: My Broken Brain and the Meals that Brought me Home',There are recipes. There is food. There is gathering. What the reader goes home after reading this book is a perception of food's role in sustaining life both physically and emotionally. We have to eat everyday. They say that death and taxes are certain but so are meals and laundry. The author focuses on how getting involved in cooking is an affirmation that you are making it to eat, so there is a future of that. And its this vision that gets her through the tough time of dealing with a brain aneurysm. Things like what baking means - "Baking Means you have more than enough: more flour, more butter, more eggs, to s

My daughter awaiting her sister, said she'll get a baby cake. At Albertson's today, my husband got a 'seasonal baby cake', made with hersheys chocolate with chocolate whipped icing. Heaven!

Cracked Wheat Khichdi

When there's time in the morning, I like to make Indian breakfast. In the last couple of days, I have exhausted all the upma, poha, susheela options. Semiya upma is my daughter's favourite, so that is for weekends. Remaining is cracked wheat. While tossing ideas of how to cook it, I thought about making it the khichdi way. 1 and 1/2 cup cracked wheat #2 1 cup moong dal handful of french beans ginger garlic paste 1/3 of chopped onion cumin seeds salt green chillies I was very glad when after 3 whistles in the pressure cooker, it didnt turn out mushy.

Bambino Instant Vermicelli Puliogare Mix

Bambino Instant Vermicelli Puliogare Mix Its fun to try instant mixes. This Bambino Instant Vermicelli Puliyogare is done within 10 min and as it says on the box, its non-sticky. Just when I was forming an opinion in mind, that this is bland, I got my dose of spice. With the puliyogare mix, there's a spice and sweet interlay going on as you eat.

Choyla

For a potluck, my friend made  Choyla  with boiled potatoes for a vegetarian audience. The flavour that jumped at me  was lemon pepper. She said that usually its made with chicken or lamb.
