Taste peaks

The first bite was honey sweet, then granola wave then a recall of ohoy's chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips. For all the healthy attire, the thins have taste. The fig tinies can get sticky. I do not like the fig crisps of Newtons but I liked this. But the price, for the new fangled fig looking packaging is unbelievable. I did rather buy dried figs from Sprouts and feel lot more healthy and righteous.

The smell of jaggery

As kids, we learnt of medi pandu or cluster fig as an inedible fruit. I dont like the Newton fig bars. I read about figs last year around this time, when they were in season. I got to have fresh Black mission figs from my friends backyard. We decided on the kind using a 'Trees of North America' book. I hadnt seen a fresh fig until then and never wondered why they were always available dried.  I bought dried Calymyrna figs a while ago, but didnt get to eating them. The main reason was that they still retained their whole tiny pear form and light jaggery colour. I am used to seeing figs in their pressed to a circle and dark brown form for ultra packaging reasons. On a trip, I had the figs. But when I bit into the Calymyrna figs - the peel wasnt too dry or scaly like that of a date, it was still soft to the chew and the inside with the tiny brown-yellow seeds tasted like jam.

Ways with green

Emeril has a recipe for 'Cilantro Pesto' in Farm to fork . I have made cilantro with yogurt and I liked it. I buy this idea. Shirred eggs. Now I used to think that all my math teachers had good English. I have to form a new myth about chefs vocabulary. Opal Basil. Cheese salt. With so many salts, 'namak haraam' has to get more specific. Escarole salad. Gremolata. Pickled water melon. So with green beans. onions. okra. If you know tres leche- three kinds of milk, getr eady for the triple chocolate - unsweetened, semi sweet, bitter sweet. Arugula flan. I didnt know that flan could be savory. When I look at stuffed figs and stuffed artichokes, I wonder if the way to eat them is easy?

Some baking

I liked two recipes from this book of Savory Baking . Lost no time in making them. Pistachio wafers . The other is sour cream fig spirals. While making the spread, the smell of figs boiling in orange juice along with rosemary is therapeutic. The final outcomes - instead of spiral, I have a half spiral. One of the mistakes could be that I didnt soften the butter at room temperature.
