California food tales

Tandoori grill , Santa Clarita buffet on monday, had soft gaarlic and plain naans. We went around 2pm when the closing time is 3pm. The tandoori chicken dish was empty by then. Halfway it did get filled with appetising sedona colored chicken. I passed a piece to my husband who found that it wasnt cooked inside. Chole, chicken tikka masala had their usual taste. spinach was mundane, nothing out of the ordinary. Some customers had a bad taste at the end when they were charged 8.95 of the weekend rate, instead of 6.95 while it was a monday. The person who charged the bill explained that it being a labor day, their workers needed an off as they are people too, which still didnt explain why they should be charged extra without prior notice. While leaving this place, I found a pointer for our next meal - Thai Dishes.

China Delight, Oakhurst. Here I first ordered a hot and sour soup expecting soup like in Thai place. The soup turned out to be too strong and spicy for our tastes. We then had chicken fried rice which didnt leave any impression.

Thai Dishes. everybody was very taken with the ambience. As soon as we entered the place, the Thai smells were emanating. The welcoming huge face statue of Buddha on the wall. The wooden dragons insie. a little section in a traditional house style on a raised podium. I felt that if we sat inside it would feel like we were in a boat house. Pa-Nang was like usual Thai. Green curry seemed sweet at first but in later bites I felt the spice. Spicy fried rice seemed better fried than Thai fried rice. In the end, we wanted the left over curries to be packed. The waitress asked if it was ok to put them in one, we said yes and were surprised to find just one little box with both the curries and rice mixed in it. We left snickering.

Zen japanese thai cuisine, Banning happened to be where we got hungry. We passed by Jasmine thai, wonder how that would have turned out. After our orders came, my friend best put the taste of the fried rices as more of chinese than Thai. Mussaman curry was sweet. Yellow curry was similar to mussaman in texture, yellow in colour and nothing distinct in taste. A sweet little salt-pepper set - two little ceramic men, one in white, another in red, hugging each other, like saying hello.

Healthy protein cabbage After the onion gravy success, I was excited to find out who is next in the boxring. A cabbage. I have  afound a way to make my family love it - a lentil eg urad or moong (fried initially, adds crunch - learned from a friend's sister visiting then) in copious amounts and mandolin sliced cabbage I wanted to see if there was a different way to make it. I saw this split chickpea addition to it and wondered why I didnt think of it before. I know of a recipe with soaked split chickpea and onion curry (diced onions, but now I am thinking another recipe would be to give the special treatment to onions with a blend and then fried well - elevates any main ingredient even simple one like soaked split chickpea. oh no, now reimaging all the great food could have been if done well - thinking chole curry -- its like once you know a mistake and have tons and tons of papers, to go back and correct). In some months, when for religious reasons, people dont eat onion, t...
