In the same boots

There's nothing like finding a solution to a problem you have faced. Some time ago I struggled with softening hardened brown sugar. If I had access to page 13 of What Einstein Told His Cook, I would have known the reasoning. Until then some easy and some difficult tips.

have the book now. The author suggests putting the sugar in a tight lidded container, covering it  with a plastic wrap, then placing a damp paper towel on top ans seal it for a day.
Other things I learnt from the book:
Instant noodles are deep fried, so they can retain shape.

Banana pudding

I went over the roasted banana pudding recipe from yesterday and found it too consuming (shopping time, dishes, baking time), I finally decided on  caramelized banana pudding . And meringue making is merry. Flour is used in making the custard.  all purpose flour plays the corn starch  role of thickening the custard. I used  Parle G  instead of vanilla wafers.
