Every bit crunchy

The 2 bite size squares of crackers have a mild garlic and cheese taste. Thats perfect as I am not a big fan of cheese. And its made of whole grains. Whats not to like about it? My toddler too enjoyed these. For travings that call for crunch, these crisps will do the job with or without a dip.

I'm not an arugula fan

Today  wildflowerbread  had complimentary loaf for moms as mother day special. We had Chopped salad and Almond Tuna sandwich. surprisingly the salad has more calories than the sandwich. The chopped salad with its columns of different colored ingredients is a looker. Wow, the dried corn tasted so good. I was expecting raw dry corn but this was a dehydrated version without the tough bite.

Blended spinach to aloo palak

In the thrall of green rice, I mixed blended spinach into cooked rice. When it was hot, I had lots of it. The second meal around, I couldnt stomach it. Had to think of another way to use the  remaining blended spinach wonder. This  aloo palak  recipe seemed like too many steps.  simple aloo palak  was a one pot affair.

Eggless rolls

I was looking to make a quick dessert without eggs. And I had marie biscuits in the pantry. I couldnt use all the filling the recipe called for. The crushed biscuits made into a dough with milk and the cocoa has a nice sinny taste.  marie biscuit chocolate rolls .
Molten chocolate cakes I reduced the sugar to 1 cup and cut down the 3 yolks. Lets see what happens. I am trying  capsicum besan fry . last time I made it with beans which was dry. This time there is some moisture in the capsicum curry.
I am about to make a  German chocolate cake . One of the books said that traditionally the sides are not frosted. From yesterday's jelly roll cake I was imagining a  German chocolate cake roll .

Tools and improvement

And this is how a cherry pitter helps in making those well pitted cherries I have seen one of these at work an apple corer and slicer. Boom just like that an apple pie in the oven at a friend's apartment. here's something that works on apples and pears The book also has a funny pcitcure of taking out a cake (bundt?)  by inverting it onto a heat resistant bottle. Looking at the 'remoing coffee cake from pan' from a 2 piece pan by sliding spatula between cake and base reminded of the methods and tools of this book.

Salmon nights

Betty Crocker's  cold poached salmon with herb mayonnaise While looking for Salmon Almodine, I found  Almond crusted salmon caramelized onions and basil . I wasnt upto caramelizing the onions but my husband missed them onions today when I realised that I forgot to add the onions while boiling the water. He is also a big fan of mustard, so next time its  poached salmon with honey mustard sauce . We couldnt wait to chill the salmonf or 2 whole hours after cooking it. And no leftovers to find how the cold poached salmon tastes. I didnt want to waste the water. I boiled rice with it. Interestingly the rice cooked on stove, had a puffy quality to it. Keeping the Betty Crocker recipes mania alive, I made a banana cake  with buttermilk. At a friends house, had  Rice ravva upma .

Using up extra whipped cream

Jelly Roll  is something that I have been thinking of making for a while. I have  a rickety cookie sheet which formed  a cake, thick on one side and thin on another. But the cake itself is way thinner. It also had huge pockets of  gas filled up. Reminds me of the  cake mass  where the assistant reverses the ratio of baking soda and flour. But once cooled and wrapped in towel (I used the paper towel, which seemed to work fine), the cake was dandy . I did end up doing the assistnat's blooper with putting 1 cup butter instead of 1/2 cup butter while making  cream puffs . if not for this exercise I wouldnt realise my error. In the jelly roll, I used Kissan jam and whipped cream.  We always pass by the costco frozen aisle, look at the cream puffs. But that jumbo box is one too many cream puffs. Its not everyday that we make cream puffs, so I made some eclairs too to go with the whipped cream filling. You dont find the whipped cream in t...
