Brokenness

Mothers are encouraged to create their own den for nursing. Is that not what we all want a place that is there for us forever. Even if its not the same. A corner of a bed. A bed you will have no matter where you go, unless you change your life dramatically and lead a peripatetic life.
Cucumber & Lemon flavor of softsoap with its fragrance reminds me of my fondness for the buyer, that I should let him know about it and so does the ineffectivness of a new dishwashing liquid. A suffusion of memory into time. How much is enough? What is forever? 40-60yrs?
With motherhood, like the cracking egg, an identity dissolves, another forms. In this brokenness, have to figure a wholeness.

An ornamental oil bottle
procured when a friends
family moved back to India

For a while it decorated
my office desk until
some colleagues found
it funny

It then moved from
kitchen to kitchen
with me

Today when the refrigerator
was open or shut
There was a sound
something fell
but nothing visible

between the fridge and the
wall there is a space
enough to
hold a broken glass
to break a held glass
tilted into it

How some things walk into our life and then vanish.

Egg Malai Masala

Egg Malai Masala  Its fun when things turn out as they should. I pureed the onions and then cooked them well. I added the milk for the egg Malai Masala and made chicken curry with other half of the onion base. I used kasoori methi in both. Many times I have felt the onions grainy, but this time I got it right. Patience.

Cuban Bread

So you should already know the sweet and breadrolls book if you have already read of the popovers. I have planned on making bread for a long time. A detour of popovers and finally I'm aqui. From the same book, I tried this Cuban bread and enjoyed making the slits in the bread. Like a surgeon. I still have to get the proofing right. The actual recipe reading takes place in real time. I was reading about the bread on the web and when I came across the lines about how it is different from a French bread in that it is left to rise after shaping the loaf, I was worried that my Cuban bread would lose its nationality. Turns out that I hadnt progressed that far into the recipe. The Best American travel writing 2008 Khubz al arabi
