Roasted Corn Nuts

Had Roasted Corn nuts from Safeway Produce. First few are super crunchy and taste like Frito Lays but any further, then a bitter taste accumulates. Making roasted corn kernel nuts  involves soaking.

Ocho Coconut Candy

Loads of Chocolate. The coconut too tastes real.

Pulav and Aloo Korma

Our neighbour gave us a demo of ow to make Pulav and Aloo Korma. Before I forget Pulav 7 cups rice 10 and 1/2 cups of water (of this 1 cup can be coconut milk or dairy milk) Initially, the whole spices and vegetables are sauteed, once the rice cooks to 3/4, it is cooked for one whistle. Stirring the pot once in a while lets the veggies mix up so you dont end with a bed of it Aloo Korma Sautee ginger garlic paste, onions. Then super cube Aloo, with tomatoes and spice seasoning. Cook for a whistle or two.

Kalemelised Corn

Not Corn exactly, Jowar. I have had this jowar dhani for a while. Today it spoke to me. And so did the kale. I added Popped  Jowar  after sauteing the kale leaves, cumin.

Samosa from Costco rotis

My sister made these amazing samosas with Costco rotis. I said "Gallo thelinattunde" My husband sang to the tune "Nunelo devinattunde" which translates to it feels like flying in the air(gallo) fried in the oil. float is the word for thelinattu, which works well for the other line too. People refer to a greasy thing as it floating in oil. Which reminds me of the  grease cleaning  tank that I saw today at the office cafeteria, pumping out oil from the grease trap. I had read about restaurant having grease traps, but didnt know that the cleaning involved was so tech. I like the classic puffish look of the samosas.

Spiral Slicer and Mandolini

Things that go together. Today this is what my daughter learnt at preschool. I tried to coax what she learnt at preschool. I said 'Shoes and Socks' and then she chimed in 'Milk and Cookies'. I bought the OXO Good Grips Handheld Mandline Slicer a long time ago but never used it. When I got the Spiralschneider Spirelli Spiral Slicer (had my eyes on it, since I first saw it at Ross), it was not all rosy or actually it was with all the carrot still stuck in the blade. It is easier with the cucumber. But towards the end you are in a fight you dont know if its with the spiral slicer or the cucumber. despite all that, I like the churned out cucumber which is strips. I read that someone used it with a potato. So you know whats coming up next. Once the cucumber piled up into the plate into the bottom cone (of damru shape, street hawker's wooden base in India), I thought why not put sliced tomatoes around. And thats how the mandoline slicer found its calling. What I lik...

Palak Corn Poha

Its amazing what a little visibility can do to ingredients. Earlier corn poha used to languish in the store cove. My husband filled it in a nice plastic box. I had assigned spinach for spinach omelette but we eat boiled egg in the morning anyway. It cant wait till weekend to be used up. And thats how we have this Palak Corn Poha. Soak the corn poha in water just for a minute or so.
