Salt for taste

Assault on Salt

As a kid you learn that curd rice tastes good not only because your mother feeds you, but because it has salt.
In high school, you then learn of its chemical nature in chemistry class as newfangled NaCl.
Later as a grown up, if you cook your own food you learn from recipes to add salt for taste
or if you use processed foods that they add salt for taste.
